Direct debit order facilities

On the payment due date, your amount payable (minimum due or full amount owing) will automatically be deducted from your bank account and your credit card account will be credited (subject to one day 'uncleared effects'). A fixed amount can also be deducted and credited monthly, which will ensure that your account is always in good standing.

If you have an account with another bank, FNB has a dedicated team who will be happy to help you switch your debit orders to your new FNB account for free. You will receive regular updates on the progress.

Inter-account transfers

A safe and easy way to transfer money from linked accounts. Transfers can be done at an ATM or via the internet.

ATM transfers

Allows you to use your credit card to access all your accounts and do all your banking transactions. Your FNB account will automatically be linked, and you can use your card to draw cash from your credit card account and make inter-account transfers.

FNB's Online Banking service offers you a safe, flexible and convenient way to manage your accounts and to do your banking. If you do not have a computer, you can go to selected FNB branches that offer you free access to Online Banking.

General card safety

  • Always sign the back of your card as soon as you receive it, using a ballpoint pen.
  • Never disclose your personal identification number or PIN for your credit card to anybody, not even a call centre agent. You are the only person who should ever know this number. Remember your PIN, don't write it on the card and, if you do write the number down, keep it in a safe place separate from your credit card.
  • When using your card at an ATM, enter your PIN in such a way that no one can easily see your keystrokes.
  • Don't leave your slip behind at an ATM. Rather shred it to stop card fraud.
  • Never allow your credit card out of your sight. You have the right to be present when your card is swiped through an electronic terminal. Fraudsters can use small handheld reading devices to capture the electronic data on your card. This information can be used to produce a fake card.
  • Make sure that you always get your own card back after using it. Also, make sure that you tear up any voided or cancelled sales slips.
  • Report a lost or stolen card to FNB immediately.
  • Ignore any credit card offer that requires you to spend money up-front.
  • Never give your credit card number over the telephone unless you initiated the call.
  • Keep a list of your credit cards, credit card numbers and toll-free numbers in a safe in case your cards are lost or stolen.
  • Check your monthly statement to ensure all charges are your own and immediately notify us of any errors or unauthorised charges.

Internet card safety

  • Ensure the site you are on is secure (check for the padlock indicating a secure site, the use of https://.. is also more secure than http://...)
  • Ensure the site is legitimate (look at the address, certificates, etc.)
  • Safeguard your bank cards and PINs at all times
  • Keep your FNB Online Banking details secret
  • Change your PINs and passwords regularly
  • Don't allow your browser software to save your password
  • Install and maintain antivirus software
  • Make sure you shop securely online

Cash deposit fees

  • A cash deposit fee is charged if you pay cash into your credit card account.
  • To avoid this charge, we recommend that you use one of the easy electronic payment options.

Over limit fees

  • Please take note of the limit on your card. Your card limit is shown on your monthly statement.
  • An over limit fee is charged whenever you exceed the credit limit.
  • This fee is not designed to penalise you - please let us know if you require a limit increase.

Late payment fees

To avoid this charge you must pay at least the minimum monthly instalment due before the payment due date.

Debit interest

  • Ensure you pay the full outstanding amount on your statement to avoid being charged interest.
  • If you do not pay the full outstanding amount on or before the due date shown on your monthly statement, interest will be charged from the date of each transaction on your account on both the statement balance and any new purchases made on your card.
  • Cash transactions, electronic transfer of funds resulting in a debit balance, airtime and electricity purchases always attract interest from the transaction date.

Managing credit

Budget facility

A credit card from FNB includes a Budget facility, which gives you the convenience of financing more expensive items, such as school fees and emergency expenses.

  • The Budget facility is a secondary facility on a credit card account.
  • This facility may be used for larger purchases above N$200 and is repayable over a period that suits you from 6 to 60 months.
  • The full transaction amount is debited to the budget account and the monthly instalment is debited to the Straight/Revolving facility on the statement billing date (not on the payment due date).

Credit limits and extended Budget facilities

Through your Credit Limit and extended Budget facilities, your credit card from FNB offers you credit limit reassessment.

  • Credit limits are flexible, which means you can ask for them to be changed.
  • If you are planning an overseas trip, you can arrange a temporary Credit Limit increase or ask that your Budget Limit be moved to your Straight Limit, as the Budget facility is not available internationally.
  • You may wish to limit your exposure to possible fraud by decreasing your Credit Limit and/or Budget facility at your convenience.
